Common Smile Problems
Our Smile Gallery includes before/after pictures and
animations of the most common smile problems.
Protrusion

The appearance and function of your teeth are impacted by this type of bite.
It is characterized by the upper teeth or jaw extending too far forward or the
lower teeth or jaw not extending far enough forward.
Crossbite

The upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth, which may cause premature tooth
wear and misaligned jaw growth.
Overbite
The upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth too much. A deep bite could
cause premature tooth wear and, in severe circumstances, the lower teeth could
impinge on the palate behind the upper front teeth.
Open Bite
Proper chewing is impacted by this type of bite, in which the upper and lower
front teeth do not overlap. Open bites may be caused by a number of habits,
such as tongue thrusting, thumb or finger sucking or lip biting.
Crowding
Crowding occurs when teeth have insufficient space to erupt in proper alignment.
Crowding can often be corrected by expansion, and many times, tooth removal
can be avoided.
Spacing
Spacing problems may be caused by missing teeth, small teeth, or, in more
severe circumstances, gum problems causing unstable teeth.
Midlines
This type of problem may be caused by an irregularity of the bite of the back
teeth, which may negatively impact jaw and proper dental function.
